How does the background affect the outcome of an image?

While filming, I wanted to pay special attention to not only the main component of the image but also the background. I feel like the backgrounds are usually overlooked and forgotten about, so how the background looks was definitely a main focus of mine. In most of the images, the background is blurred but still has interest to it. My personal favorite that demonstrates this is the one of Jordis and Ana. I like that Jordis is clear and sharp while Ana is blurry and mysterious. I think the background really adds to this image, and it wouldn't be as interesting without it. Another image that benefits from the background, or lack thereof, is the one of just Jordis. Having little to no background and surrounding her face in the dark shadows is what makes the image so dark and moody. Focusing on the backgrounds and not just the main element was a new and fun challenge that I'm happy I took on!
